Maternal and Child Health

Our Maternal and Child Strategy aims to supplement the government’s effort to end preventable maternal and child deaths and promote health and development initiatives for all women as primary caregivers and children in the first 1000 days of their lives.

While every child deserves to have a healthy start in life, unfortunately, every year, millions of parents lose their children to preventable illnesses because they do not have access to life-saving childhood vaccines. Enabling young children to achieve their full developmental potential and mothers to access quality health care is a human right and an essential requisite for sustainable development. Given the critical importance of enabling children to make the best start in life and women to access quality health care during pregnancy and birth, the health sector, among other sectors, has an important role and responsibility to support nurturing care for early childhood development. Equally, every mother should have access to quality health care during pregnancy and childbirth.

We collaborate with actors to ensure that nurturing care for children is implemented across the board, ensuring all children have a good start in life.

The outcome of our maternal and child health is: Improved health practices & utilization of prevention and treatment of maternal and child illnesses. We collaborate with actors on the following areas:

  • Psychosocial Health and well being for young mothers
  • Strengthening health worker capacity
  • Improving newborn health
  • Pre & postnatal care
  • Nutrition and Food security
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) for caregivers and young mothers
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
  • Protection/safeguarding
  • Advocacy for better health.
The Nutrition & Food Security Program

We address the double burden of over and undernutrition through a collaborative approach that strengthens food systems towards access, resilience, and improving child feeding practices, including breastfeeding for affordable, quality care for all children.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

We recognize the importance of access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as a prerequisite for a healthy child and that WASH services benefit the immediate dignity and safety of the child and mother and provide long-term health, social, and economic benefits.

Advocacy for better health

Using our experience in the childcare ecosystem, we collaboratively advocate for policy and regulatory reforms with governments and donor investment in integrated approaches that deliver improved and sustainable health outcomes for children.
